Nate Salva-Cruz – MMA Coach
Hey everyone! I’m a seasoned mixed martial artist and breathwork facilitator with 20 years of experience in personal training, group fitness, and martial arts. Born and raised in the vibrant streets of Brooklyn, New York, I’ve called San Diego home for the past 10 years.
My journey into fitness and martial arts began early in life. Growing up, I wasn’t the strongest, fastest, or smartest, but I never let that hold me back. Through resilience, I found peace and gratitude—qualities I aim to share with my community.
Driven by the multifaceted world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and my studies in philosophy and agriculture, my approach to training is rooted in intentionality. I draw inspiration from Stoic philosophy and Bruce Lee’s ideology, “Use what is necessary and discard what is useless.”
With an MMA record of 6-2 and as a former NY State 145lb Champion, I’m passionate about sharing my experiences, knowledge, and love for martial arts. My goal is to educate our community in self-awareness, self-defense, and resilience. From the streets of Flatbush to prize fighting in the cage, I’ve learned that fighting is an honest sport that reveals our true selves.
For me, fighting is a form of real-time communication. Like cold plunging, it tests our ability to perform under pressure. Conflict is sometimes unavoidable, but through training and awareness, you can build the confidence to face life’s challenges head-on.
As a martial artist, it’s essential to understand who I am, what I want in life, and how I want to use my time. I ask my clients these same questions because after years of helping others achieve their goals, I’ve realized that true growth requires a commitment to maintaining that lifestyle. For me, working out must serve a greater purpose beyond myself, or I’d lose motivation.
I believe that everything begins with a solid foundation, and for most of us, that foundation is our breath. I use breathwork and meditation to connect the mind, body, and spirit, making my training more intentional. Learning to breathe efficiently during physical activity can vastly improve performance—whether it’s lifting, running, fighting, or simply pushing your limits.
As an Onnit Trainer, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt, and former MMA Champion, I offer a comprehensive and holistic approach to health and wellness. My passion for MMA extends beyond the cage; I’m here to help individuals become better people by becoming better martial artists.
